As soon as she took the lid off the lot of Oreo cookie crumb cupcakes, the smell of stale beer was overpowered by a certain sweetness of childhood: Betty Crocker boxed cake mixes and frosting from the can, Oreo cookies by the tray …

Aside from the laughter, old and new friends and general merriment — that being a given — nothing says birthday party at a bar (we took over Art Bar‘s back room) like homemade cupcakes and novelty  treats — Pop Rocks, bubble gum cigarettes, Pez — from Economy Candy.

I discovered yesterday that the ladies over at
Cupcakes Take the Cake were on a marathon baking session to make 100 cupcakes in celebration of a birthday on the same day my friend was making the Oreo cookie cupcakes for her birthday!
